The Future and AI

It's easy to get into a kinda doomer mentality with AI, so here's my thoughts, I like to call myself cautiously optimistic.

I think AI has the power to be as disruptive as nuclear weapons, and will be if we let it. I think long term its involvement will be normalized such that it improves our livelihoods, but doesn't disrupt *too* much, and I say this because I do think it has the potential to disrupt everything but humanity will have a choice, you can't raise unemployment too much without a suitable replacement, otherwise you will have bored people who are tired of their situation and will begin to form communities who will either refuse to use/abstain from AI, or communities who will actively fight back.

Its been a few years but I took a differential equations class, and I seem to recall a explosion vs extinction problem, if you let bunnies procreate unrestricted, they will very quickly explode in quantity to a flat out unsustainable level. This is why you have predators, and those predators keep them in check. Right now humanity has had a largely explosive growth with no natural predator, AI may be our predator, or it could be our aid. And allow even more expansion (imagine reaching additional planets for colonization, with AI assistance, that's be pretty cool).

I'm cautiously optimistic, right now we are still working to find a balance, and that balance will come, perhaps with some pain, but it will come nonetheless.

I look forward to the potential the human race can achieve with AI assistance.
